Celtic Spirituality and Ecological Living
The Celtic spiritual tradition, in both its pre-Christian and Christian expressions, is deeply ecological. At the heart of this tradition lies a body of wisdom which when observes facilitates human beings living in right relationship with themselves , their families , communities and the earth.
Core beliefs in this tradition reflects an understanding that (1)the physical material world is imbued with divine presence (2)that mutual and respectful relationships between people and the land is crucial in maintaining the health and well being of both .(3) Honouring the Divine requires a commitment to living in harmony with all elements of the universe (4) Justice within this tradition was based on right relationships rather than legalism so that the quality of life reflected the quality of our relationships . This world view is also reflected in the writing of Thomas Berry “ Our fulfilment is not in our isolated human grandeur, but in our intimacy with the larger earth community, for this is also the larger dimension of our being. Our human destiny is integrated with the destiny of the earth.” Dream of the Earth
This course will offer participants an opportunity to explore some of the fundamental principles present in the Celtic spiritual tradition and in aspects of the new story of the universe as told by Thomas Berry, Joanna Macy, Brian Swimme and others.
